AUGUST 2023 Update

The economic development program of Gateway Outreach is well under way. We have equipped Sr. Welton da Costa Barbosa, his wife Sra. Marleide Caludiana de Oliveira, & 10 yr. old son Welton Keneddy with a complete beekeeping business. They have been trained by a professional and should be producing their first batch of Sertao honey around 2 months from now. We have also connected them with a co-op to process and package the honey. We are looking into packaging options.

The ingenuity of the people of the Sertao utterly amazes me! Such hard-working and kind people. Welton built stands and fixed used tires on top to hold the bee boxes. We LOVE it!!! Hoping to get our hands on some honey real soon!

With the help of hired and volunteer labor, we have built and supplied Sra. Luciene Pereira da Silva and her four children, Victor, Cristina, Samuel, & Francisco with a complete chicken farming business, including a large coop & 100 chickens that will produce enough eggs to support this beautiful family. We cannot say enough “thank yous” to Abraao & Sara, and the generous, hard-working crew that made this miracle possible.

Abraao told me that we could not be doing anything better to support our Sertao neighbors than to provide them a way of life.

These projects will have a long-lasting impact on the entire region, and will spread to other communities; giving opportunity, hope, & bettering the lives & futures of many families.

Our emergency relief program is busy renovating bathrooms in ruined condition for 5 families. We are hoping to reconnect with LifeStraw soon for another clean water project. We have been talking with a hygiene education specialist who wants to accompany us into the Sertao to bring hygiene education & supply them with materials that will lead to healthier living. These are immediate needs that are in the works right now as you read this. The 50 year-long droughts in this region have created hardship that we cannot imagine. They need your support. Please consider a gift that will truly save lives! Help us “give a cup of cold water to one of these little ones” (Matthew 10:42). Thank you!
